In support of their efforts to promote community arts, Fawn Mountain applied for and was awarded an Artist-in-Residence grant by the Alaska State Council on the Arts. Edward Littlefield, a professional percussionist and prominent music educator in the Northwest, will work with all Fawn Mountain students and teachers for two weeks in May. The students will learn traditional Tlingit melodies and language, which will then be used as the foundation for creating new music based on the students own experiences. They will be able to tell their own stories through lyrics, movement and music. In addition to several school assemblies, Mr. Littlefield will conduct a special performance with the Fawn Mountain Fifth Grade students at the Saxman Tribal House on May 19 at 6:00pm. While he is in Ketchikan, Mr. Littlefield is available for private drum/percussion lessons. He can be contacted through his website, edlittlefield.com. Fawn Mountain gratefully acknowledges their PTA who is providing additional financial support and the Cedars Lodge who is donating lodging for Mr. Littlefield.

A QUICK NOTE ABOUT FIELD TRIPS
With the end of the school year rapidly approaching there are many field trips and activities coming up. Please check your child's backpack often for field trip permission slips. We do not accept verbal permission for field trips and do not want your child to miss out on planned activities.
For safety and security all visitors to Fawn Mt. must enter through the front doors, sign in at the office and receive a visitor sticker. We are strictly enforcing this safety measure and ask for your help. Please stop at the office, sign in and get a sticker. Thank you.
